summer wednesdays

SUMMER READING SIGN UP DAYS
Thursday, June 23 from 3- 5 pm OR Friday, June 24 from 1 - 3 pm

Stop by to sign up for summer reading, craft your summer reading "creature" that will be hung up on the wall, and complete our "escape room" style scavenger hunt challenge for a small prize. This program will be held outside in Law Park. (In case of rain, it will be under the Pavilion.)

If you don't make it to our in person sign up days event - you can still sign up anytime this summer!

WHAT IS THE SUMMER READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM?
Children sign up and set a goal for how much reading they will do this summer. If the child is not yet reading independently, the goal is regarding what is read aloud to them. When a child signs up, they get a summer reading necklace with their first "summer reader" charm. As they make progress towards their reading goal, they let us know about it which earns them beads/charms/tags to add to their summer reading necklace. All participants (who check in with us at least once) get a certificate of partipation and a free book at the end of the summer.

WHO CAN SIGN UP FOR THE PROGRAM?
This program is for children that are age 3 - 12 (or entering grade 6 in September 2022). Children and teens that are entering grades 7 - 12 may register for the teen summer reading game.

WHEN CAN A CHILD SIGN UP?
Children can sign up starting at the Summer Reading Sign Up Days event. If the child does not attend that event, they can sign up any day thereafter while the program is going on. The program is from June 25 - August 19. You can sign up in person at the library during summer reading reporting hours; or you can sign up anytime after June 25 with our online summer reading registration form.

REPORTING YOUR READING & GETTING BEADS/CHARMS/TAGS:
Children are encouraged to tell us about their reading throughout the summer. Just so the child has read more since the last time they talked to us about it, they can check in with us again. Children can check in with us once every few days, once a week, or just a time or two during the summer - whatever works for you.

Each time the child talks to us about what they have read, they earn another bead/charm/tag for their summer reading necklace. You can tell us about the reading in person at our Children's Room desk during our summer reading reporting hours; or you can enter the reading in the online summer reading log. If you enter it online, we will be in touch about collecting your bead/charm/tag.

Younger children often have listened to several stories since they last checked in with us. It is fine to enter or tell us the number of books and then only the title of the one the child wants to talk about.

Older children often take a few weeks to finish a single long book. The child can check in with us about it before finishing it! Just so the child has read a few chapters, or for an hour or two, they can report their reading progress!

HOW MANY BEADS/CHARMS/TAGS CAN YOU GET?
Each participant may collect 6 tags or charms for their necklace. After that, they may be limited to selecting from our bead options. Each participant cannot collect the same tag or charm more than 2 times.
